Online Gambling in Manitoba

Manitoba’s authorized online casino is PlayNow.com/mb, run by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries on BCLC’s platform. You can play from age 18, one year younger than in most provinces. Manitoba is also where Canada’s lottery corporations won their first court order pushing an offshore brand out of a province.

Is Online Gambling Legal in Manitoba?

Yes, through PlayNow. Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL), a Crown corporation, conducts and manages lotteries, casinos, VLTs and online gaming, and the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA) regulates them. Manitoba does not license private online operators. The LGCA tells residents that most gambling websites are “not regulated in Manitoba” and that players have no recourse if something goes wrong.

The Bodog Injunction (2025)

On May 26, 2025, the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench granted MBLL — acting for the Canadian Lottery Coalition — a permanent injunction against Bodog’s operator. The court declared that Bodog had no lawful authority to offer gambling or advertise to Manitobans and required it to geo-block the province. Bodog stopped serving Manitoba within weeks.

It was the first court-ordered exit of an offshore gambling brand from a Canadian province. It did not make playing offshore a crime for players, and it applies to Bodog only — but it shows the lottery corporations are now using civil courts, since provinces cannot block websites.

MBLL launched PlayNow in January 2013 with BCLC as its technology provider. It offers casino games, live dealers, sports betting, lottery (including Western Max and Western 649) and bingo.
