Online Gambling in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut

Canada’s three territories have the most limited gambling options in the country. There is no territorial online casino or sportsbook, and PlayNow and Atlantic Lottery don’t serve the North. What you can do online is buy lottery tickets through the Western Canada Lottery Corporation’s Lotto Spot app — and not in every community.

Is Online Gambling Legal in the Territories?

Under the Criminal Code only a province or territory can conduct and manage online casino games, and none of the territories has chosen to. So no online casino is authorized in the North. Residents who play at international sites are in the same position as elsewhere in Canada: players are not prosecuted, but the sites are unlicensed and there is no territorial regulator to help if something goes wrong. In February 2026 the NWT’s Department of Municipal and Community Affairs reportedly began looking at how online gambling could be regulated; no proposal has been published.

Yukon

The Yukon Lottery Commission, operating as Lotteries Yukon, sells interprovincial and Western lotteries as an agent of the Government of Yukon and WCLC. WCLC’s Lotto Spot app sells draw tickets in select Yukon locations. The territory’s only casino is Diamond Tooth Gerties in Dawson City, open seasonally. Lotteries Yukon refers players who need support to CMHA Yukon’s Reach Out line, 1-844-533-3030 (2 pm–10 pm).

Northwest Territories

The NWT Lottery Commission oversees WCLC lotteries in both the NWT and Nunavut, and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs licenses charitable gaming. The territory’s regulations set 18 as the minimum age to play WCLC lotteries. In April 2026 online sales moved from the Subscription Spot website to the Lotto Spot app; 11 communities are not approved for online sales: Colville Lake, Délı̨nę, Dettah, Fort Good Hope, Gamètì, Jean Marie River, Kakisa, Kátł’odeeche First Nation, Nahanni Butte, Sachs Harbour and Sambaa K’e. Nunavut

WCLC lotteries in Nunavut are overseen through the NWT Lottery Commission arrangement, and the Government of Nunavut issues charitable lottery licences. There are no casinos and no online gambling of any kind run by the territory. The Kamatsiaqtut Help Line is free, anonymous and open 24/7: 1-800-265-3333.

Online Casinos That Accept Players in the Territories

Some international casinos accept players from the territories. They are not licensed by any territory — read the section above first. We only list sites that pass our checks on licence, ownership, Interac and CAD, and real payout times.
